Our Employee Reference Network

Hanes Disability Advocacy Network (HDAN)

To create and develop a more inclusive and equal workplace, and further disability awareness company-wide. HDAN is an employee-led group who sit under the Accessibility and Inclusivity steering committee. We act as advocates for those living with a disability within Hanes and assist in removing barriers, misconceptions and educate our people so we can start to eliminate any unconscious discrimination which may exist.

Members of HDAN are team members who work within Hanes, in all different areas of our organisation. Network members may have experience as a person living with disability; whether it’s them personally, someone they’re close to, or those who simply want to be an advocate. There is no specific training or experience required to join. The Network also has a shared mailbox where all members of the organization can share suggestions or resources related to accessibility & inclusion.

Q&A with Caleb

lorem ipsum

Caleb, Pyrmont office barista

How did you get your job at Hanes?
AimBig helped me on my job search. I've had two other barista roles previously before getting my current role at Hanes.

How did you find the process?
Everyone was really helpful, I transitioned into the role very easily and felt very welcome. I was given a tour of the office and got to help figure out a good spot for the coffee machine with the support of my job coach. Overall the process was quick and easy which I really liked.

What's your favourite part about your role and working at Hanes?
Getting to meet and talk to lots of new people all the time. I like making coffees for the friends I've made and get to hear about their day-to-day. I've also enjoyed having the chance to set up systems and routines that work for me in my role, I feel like my own boss a little bit!

Would you recommend Hanes as a great place to work and why?
Yes I would, I like the people and that the donations our coffees go to is a good casue.

Do you have any advice for anyone with a disability who's starting a new job?
Be happy and open to feedback, I always ask if anything I'm doing can be improved so I can do the best job possible.
